Meet Our Senior Leadership Team

The brandhouse Executive Team is lead by Gerald Mahinda in his capacity as Managing Director. Following time with some of East Africa’s most successful companies in key finance, strategy and HR roles, and culminating with Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, Gerald joined East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) as group finance and strategy director in 1999. By 2002, Gerald had played a leading role in establishing EABL as the top branded beverage alcohol business in the region through the successful share swap deal with South Africa Breweries, and the acquisitions of UDV Kenya and UDV Uganda. During this time EABL was voted the “Most Respected Company in East Africa” four years in a row.

 After a year as strategy and change director with Guinness Nigeria, in 2004 Gerald was appointed group managing director EABL. Over the past five years Gerald has transformed the business in east Africa, sponsoring expansion into local geographies. He also led the expansion of the business into new product areas entering the adult premium soft drink segment with Alvaro and growing the Senator brand to become a significant part of EABL’s business.  

Since his first year MD in 2004, Gerald saw EABL’s market capitalisation on the Nairobi stock exchange grow from US$1bn to more than US$2.5bn in 2008.  

Over the years, Gerald has been recognised by his countrymen most notably; the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear – MBS (a Presidential award in recognition of outstanding and distinguished services rendered to the nation), he served as an Advisory Board Member for the Strathmore Business School, nominated to the AIESEC Hall of Fame and was a Member of the initial Presidential Steering Committee for Kenya Vision 2030. A graduate of University of Nairobi he also attended INSEAD (France) AMP program.  

During Gerald’s tenure, EABL sponsored over 200 disadvantaged students through University education across East Africa and also successfully delivered clean drinking water to nearly 470,000 people. Gerald took over as Managing Director of brandhouse in August 2009
